“Your Network is your Net worth.”
It’s a phrase we hear often——but when lived with purpose, authenticity, and emotional intelligence, it becomes more than just a mantra. It becomes a method for growth, opportunity, and meaningful impact.
Since stepping away from the corporate world, I’ve intentionally invested in building relationships—not just to grow a business, but to plant lasting, meaningful connections in every corner of my life. In fact, this ability to connect with others is one of my signature Emotional Capital competencies, as measured through RocheMartin’s ECR assessment.
And if you’re thinking, “I’m not naturally outgoing,” let me reassure you—some of the most powerful leaders I’ve met are introverts. You don’t have to be the loudest in the room to be a great connector. With emotional intelligence as your guide, networking becomes less about performing—and more about showing up with presence, curiosity, and heart

Where I’ve Been Lately… and Why It Matters
Over the past few weeks alone, if you have been following my social journey’s you will notice I’ve found myself networking in rooms, on roads, and from sidelines to stages—including:
- County Wexford Chamber Skillnet Scaling for Success (& South East Skillnets) in Kilkenny – energy, growth inspirational stories and SME strategy.
- RocheMartin Master EQ Team Coaching training – levelling up John Broderick & with fellow coaches in Dublin learning more about ECR Teams
- County Wexford Chamber Business Awards interviews – celebrating brilliant local businesses.
- Waterford Chamber Regional Leaders closing event – proud to mentor for the past 3 years.
- GreentechHQ BASSE (Business Advantage & Sustainability South East) programme launch where business meets sustainability.
- Keynote on Emotional Intelligence at Presentation Secondary School – connecting with educators.
- Rotary Club of Wexford & County Wexford Chamber Jobs Fest event– connecting with students and employers in Wexford.
- Hope & Dream 10K – a moving, meaningful run full of spontaneous networking moments.
-
Network Ireland IWD in Croke Park – empowerment, inspiration, and authentic connection helping #breakingbarriers
- Wexford LEO IWD & PwC + Network Ireland Wexford IWD – celebrating strength and visibility and hearing inspiring stories.
- RepresentingRotary Wexford at Colour Her Way & Just 1 Life (National Opera House) – youth empowerment, creativity and community impact.
And still, some of the best conversations happen:
- On the sidelines of pitches
- Inside team workshops and coaching rooms
- Impromptu meetings in coffee shops
Because networking doesn’t need a stage or mic—it just needs presence, empathy, and heart– do not underestimate where you are already connecting and networking.
So, How Do You Actually Network with Emotional Intelligence?
From my recent Enterprise Nation session on The Art of Networking, here are some tips I live by:
✅ Do:
- Lead with curiosity – ask, don’t pitch.
- Listen actively – and genuinely.
- Show up as you are – that’s your superpower.
- Follow up with purpose – nurture the connection.
🙅♀️ Don’t:
- Don’t “collect” people – plant relationships.
- Don’t lead with agenda – lead with empathy.
- Don’t underestimate the quiet chats – they matter most.
Remembering Names? Use the FACE Method
F – Focus on their face A – Ask clarifying questions C – Clarify the name if unsure E – Employ their name in conversation
Final Word
Whether it’s a business event, a coaching session, or a quick chat on the sidelines—networking with emotional intelligence unlocks trust, connection, and growth.
Over the past few weeks, I’ve had incredible follow-ups in my DMs, phone calls, and in-person catch-ups—each one building on the last. These moments haven’t just brought energy and inspiration—they’ve also led to meaningful opportunities and business leads.
At the heart of it all? A simple truth quoted by Mimi Nicklin often: we are far more alike than we are different. When we create space to connect, to belong, and to truly listen with empathy and curiosity, something powerful happens.
Yes, connection can happen online—but in person? It’s magic. ✨
So tell me… where has networking with heart taken you lately? I’d love to hear your story.
